LSC Education Outside the Classroom
Our LSC students embraced Place-Based Learning through exciting local outings throughout the year. From grocery shopping to ordering a muffin at the local coffee shop, the focus was on real-world experiences that fostered independence and social skills. Students relished each and every opportunity to connect with new faces, explore the local community, and discover the richness of life skills and work experiences.
Poly Club
2023 was a wonderful year for our Newlands/Onslow Poly Club. We had an amazing team of tutors, led by Newlands College alumna Jane - Edna Bryce, who brought high standards and an incredible work ethic to our group. She also organised our new, very classy costumes! We were also joined by students from Onslow, which was amazing as we got to meet and learn from other members of our wider community. We performed on multiple occasions, with well - attended dress rehearsal for our community, a Fiafia night to celebrate our Pasifika leavers in Year 13, and of course Northern Polyfest, which was an amazing day of cultural celebration. Fa'afetai tele lava to all the tutors, staff and family which supported the group. Bring on 2024!
Celebration of the Arts
Continuing our annual celebration evenings, next up was a chance to relive the artistic highlights and recognise outstanding effort and achievement within the Arts. Below is a video combining a range of student visual artwork set to an original music composition by Libby Saunders. Photos of the major award winners here.
Original Music Compositions
Music Technology students put together this bumper crop of bangers to soundtrack your summer adventures.
Academic Prizegiving
The school year culminates, for both the the senior and junior school, in the Academic Prizegiving evenings where we publicly acknowledge those who have achieved at the highest levels across the full spectrum of their academic studies including scholarship recipients and those who have rendered outstanding service to the school. Congratulations to all recipients, but in particular to the students featured below were the top achievers at each year level.
Writing Week
The uniformly high quality of writing and displays had the judges scratching their heads for a winner of this year's Writing Week. In the end the mystery was solved though, as 9C7's devillishly convoluted, murder themed, Cluedo display emerged with 1st place and the Writing Week trophy.
2 Day Discovery
This year celebrating its dozenth anniversary, our 2 Day Discovery program is a much loved highlight of the Term 4 events calendar. From film making to cooking, surfing, pottery and a veritable horn o' plenty of other options, students relished the chance to explore new and exciting learning opportunities outside the classroom with their peers.
